A photoactive polymer with azobenzene chromophore in the side chains

摘要
The effects of irradiation on absorption, fluorescence quantum yield, contact angle, hydrodynamic radius, thin film thickness, and the photophysical properties of an azo-polymer poly(disperse red 1 methacrylate) (PDRIM) and its monomer DRIM were investigated. The decrease of π-π stacking in PDRIM solution caused a blue shift in the absorption and PL spectra, compared to that of the monomer solution. The high-energy vibronic band was intensified in the PL spectrum of PDRIM which can be attributed to the restriction of exciton migration. The low-energy transition, after sufficient UV irradiation displayed a remarkable blue shift, indicating a trans → cis photoisomerization. The azo-chromophore in PDRIM was not as active as that in monomer DRIM, because of the spatial hindrance in the polymer. Result shows that proper UV irradiation can increase the PL quantum yields of the azo-containing monomer and polymer solutions.
