摘要
This part reports a preliminary work wherein spur and helical gears are established from first principle using the concept of tangent line and plane, respectively. The coordinates of the ideal surfaces are obtained which can be verified on a Coordinate Measuring Machine. From the measurements, the normal deviations from ideal surfaces can be obtained by the method proposed in this paper. This method is validated by introducing a known error at a specific point on the ideal surface. Significance of the normal deviation method proposed is brought out by considering crowned helical gear surface. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
