Natural products isolated from plants, fungi and marine organisms continue to be a major source of useful new pharmaceutical agents. Starting about 15 years ago, two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy has revolutionized the structure elucidation of natural products to the point where it is note possible to carry out a complete structure elucidation in 24 hours with no more than one mg of a typical natural product. My role in this revolution will be discussed, along with a description of a successful model for graduate science education for developing countries.
