Influence of additives on microstructural evolution of MgO-C refractories

摘要
At high temperatures, Al and Si added to MgO-C refractories oxidise directly to Al2O3 and SiO2 respectively, or react with graphite or N-2 to form carbides (Al4C3 and SiC) or nitrides (AlN and Si3N4) Al4C3, SiC and additional B4C oxidise to their corresponding oxides which react with MgO to form MgAl2O4, Mg2SiO4 and MgO-B2O3 compounds respectively. The influence of formation of these phases on MgO-C brick microstructures will be discussed.
