摘要
This paper establishes the importance of radar waveforms in determining classification performance in radar systems. The paper derives a closed-form solution for the optimal waveform design. The objective is to minimise the probability of target misclassification in a 2-class problem while satisfying an energy constraint. The derivation results in a simple analytical form for the spectrum of the optimal signal. An example is presented showing the improvement in classification performance of the optimal waveform over a linearly frequency modulated waveform.
