Fractures of femoral neck in children

This is a study of 18 children (average age 9 years and 8 months) with fractures of femoral neck over a 10 year period 1991-2001. For all displaced fractures decompression of the hip joint by aspiration and closed reduction and internal fixation was performed within 24 hours. All patients were reexamined at least 2 years after injury. They were: 1 patient with type I, 7 patients with type II, 6 patients with type III, and 4 patients with type IV fractures. Only 10 patients (55.5%) of all osteosyntheses were performed on the day of admission. In 5 (27.7%) of cases, there was another injury.16 patients had good results and 2 had fair results using Ratliff criteria. At last follow-up, 2 of 18 children (11.2%) suffered AVN and premature epiphyseal closure, coxa vara and breve, and leg length discrepance more than 2cm.
