A new pyrazoline-based fluorescent sensor was synthesized and the structure was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The sensor responds to Al3+ with high selectivity among a series of cations in aqueous methanol. This sensor forms a 1:1 complex with Al3+ and displays fluorescent quenching. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V.
