摘要
Objective To further validate the concept of male depression by a community survey of male adolescents. Methods Study participants (n=1004) were recruited in the context of their medical examinations for military service and were asked to complete self-rating scales. Results Results demonstrate a risk of male depression in 22% of the respondents, which was especially pronounced in males with low masculinity/instrumentality. 41% of those at risk of male depression denied their emotional problems, and only 9 had consulted professional help. Conclusions The relationship between male depression and different aspects of masculinity requires further research. The need of early information about depression and destigmatisation of helpseeking among male adolescents is supported by the findings.
