This paper presents the use of Raman scattering for the crystalline quality assessment of (CuInSe2)(x)-(2ZnSe)(1-x) thin films for photovoltaic applications. The Raman spectra show a dominant A, mode, generally observed in I-II-VI2 chalcopyrite (CH) compounds. For CuInSe2 (x = 1) obtained at low temperatures (less than or equal to 400 degreesC), this mode is accompanied by an additional peak at 258 cm(-1) related to the existence of secondary phase with symmetry of lattice vibrations different from CH. The mode A, is broadened and shifted towards higher frequencies with increasing Zn content, which indicates on the degradation of the crystalline quality of the CH phase.
