On the influence of longitudinal magnetic and transverse electric fields to the intersubband absorption of a parabolic quantum well: a local field study

On the basis of a microscopic local-field theory, the electronic structure and optical intersubband response of a parabolic quantum well subjected to a longitudinal magnetic and transverse electric fields have been investigated Taking as a starting point an integral equation for the local field the fundamental held is determined. The absorption of the parabolic quantum well is thus obtained. Numerical calculations show that the absorption spectrum has been notably changed due to the competition between quantum confinement and the force resulting from the applied magnetic and electric fields. A comparison of different quantum confinements is also performed.
