摘要
The mining sector in Brazil has grown in the last decades contributing in an expressive form, to the economic growth of the country. However, this progress has also contributed to the increase of environmental impacts by the mining industries. The aim of this research was firstly to analyze which factors determine the environmental strategies in a mining corporation and secondly to assess which environmental strategies are used by this industry to mitigate their environmental impact. For the achievement of the proposed objective, a case study based in twenty-eight environmental strategies raised in the literature was conducted in a mining company located in the State of Paraiba in Brazil. The relevance of these strategies was analyzed through a Delphi Method. The use of these strategies in the mining company was then assessed and justified. Regarding the determinant factors of environmental strategies, the endogenous factors were the most pressing ones for the organization to implement these strategies, and these were considered decisive. On the other hand, with the exception of environmental legislation, exogenous factors have not exerted important pressure on the organization.
