摘要
A number of studies have demonstrated an increase in plasma total homocysteine (tHcy) levels in hypertensive subjects. tHcy has also been associated with coronary artery disease. The aims of this study were to analyze the fasting tHcy levels and the possible associations in hypertensive subjects. tHcy levels were determined by performing enzyme immunoassay. The tHcy levels were significantly higher in hypertensive patients compared to healthy normotensive subjects. There were no significant correlations were found between tHcy levels and age, body-mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressures. The present study shows that the tHcy level is increased in the hypertensive patients. The analysis of tHcy level would be beneficial in the general assessment of the patient's risk factors profile.
