The future of surgery is changing dramatically with the introduction of new technologies. It is imperative that surgeons familiarize themselves with these radical changes. This article reviews leading-edge technologies in imaging and sensing devices for diagnosis, image-guided surgery, robotic and telepresence for next-generation surgery, and virtual reality for education and training.
