Enhancement of Omni-Directional EMAT Signal Using a Optimized Magnetic Circuit Design

摘要
Electromagnetic ultrasonic transducers (EMATs) are crucial for the effective excitation of ultrasonic signals. However, the transducers suffer from low signal-to-noise ratio. To improve this situation, this work presents a new configuration of omni-directional magnetic-circuit-optimized EMATs. The new optimized design increases the static magnetic field strength and therefore helps to enhance the generation of Lamb wave. The coupling model applied to characterize and analyze the new design indicates that the optimized magnetic field is generated with an increasing intensity compared to the traditional magnetic configuration of EMAT. Furthermore, the simulation verification is performed and the results show that the signal of magnetic-circuit-optimized EMATs design is dramatically improved.
