A sonochemical approach to the preparation of nanocrystalline TiO2 by hydrolysis of titanium alkoxides is reported. The product structure was dependent on the reaction temperature, reaction time, the acidity of the medium and the addition quantity of ethanol. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed the particles of TiO2 were columnar in shape and the average sizes were ca. 3/7 nm (W/L). The products were also characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), and Fourier Transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy.
