Better information to prevent toxic shock syndrome. Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is caused by the passage of a toxin produced by Staphylococcus aureus into the blood circulation. The diversity of organs affected and symptoms explain the late diagnosis and potential severity of TSS. Its occurrence is linked to the misuse of menstrual tampons. Alternatives to conventional sanitary protection are now available. (C) 2021 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved
