摘要
A new approach is proposed for choosing the values of the metric for soft-decision decoding in the detection of fluctuating optical signals. The choice of metric values is based on a suboptimum statistical algorithm for parametric adaptation of an optical receiver operating in the presence of multiplicative and additive noise. The efficiencies are compared for soft-decoding algorithms using a tracking optimum metric and using a fixed suboptimum metric that takes into account the statistical characteristics of the optical signal.
