摘要
This study explores the various pathways adopted by informal traders to resist displacement during major infrastructure construction in Kumasi, Ghana. Using case design and rooted in state governance and informal agency thinking, the study draws on multiple qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews of affected traders, city officials and customary authorities; focus group discussions; document reviews and field observations. The study finds a complex mix of compliance, resistance and innovative strategies adopted by affected traders to stay and work in the central business district. The study recommends adopting improved participatory and inclusive processes in the design and implementation of major infrastructural facilities.
