An energy-efficient framework for wireless sensor networks with multiple gateways

Wireless sensor networks are expected to be widely deployed in the future. Due to their unique features, energy-efficient data dissemination from source is getting more and more attention. In this paper, an energy-efficient dissemination framework with multiple gateways (EDF), which can significantly reduce communication costs resulting in prolonged network lifetime and improve the data source management efficiency by integrated with Internet, is proposed. In our scheme, 3-level architecture with a load-balancing node is proposed, and an efficient algorithm to find a nearest gateway among the multiple gateways for detected information is provided. In the algorithm, it mostly consists of several elements: (i) interest, gradients from source to multiple gateways, and exploratory data message, (ii) scheme for deciding nearest gateway, and (iii) reinforcement and aggregation. By EDF, detected information can be sent to the nearest gateway. Our analysis and simulation results reveal that EDF performs better than the existing algorithm in terms of the average dissipated energy. The abstract should summarize the contents of the paper and should contain at least 70 and at most 150 words. It should be set in 9-point font size and should be inset 1.0 cm from the right and left margins. There should be two blank (10-point) lines before and after the abstract.
