SUSTAINABILITY EVALUATION IN TOURISM

Evaluation systems for tourism are a must in the present society and they also constitute a primarily research topic of the moment. The preoccupation for finding appropriate measurement instruments for such an area is more and more vast and the necessity becomes more and more stringent. The fact is that tourism affects society in its integrative meaning: socially, environmentally and economically and indicators to measure such a complex issue are hard to define. The World Tourism Organization has developed several reports on this theme and also provided a guide for the elaboration and implementation of suitable indicators, in order to ensure a basis for the research and analysis in the fields. But when it comes to discuss on this topic deeper, we find ourselves facing a dilemma, as the concerns in the area are diverse, but the actual data or instruments lack and the implication of countries may have not been completely understood, judging by the actual actions taken by most of the regions.
