摘要
The electrode properties and heat generation rates of Ni-Cd, Ni-H-2, and Ni-MH battery cells during charge and discharge are compared based on experimental data obtained using a radiative-type calorimeter. For all three cell types, a region of endothermic cooling and minimal heat generation occurs in the early periods of charge, followed by increasing heat generation as the state of charge of the cell increases. The discharge reaction produces the highest amount of heat, in the order Ni-H-2 > Ni-Cd > Ni-MH. This gradation in heat generation is due to reactions at the negative electrodes. There is also a gradation in thermoneutral potential, with the value for Ni-MH being close to its open-circuit potential.
