Construction of balanced multiwavelet and its application in image compression

摘要
Multiwavelets shows more advantages than scalar wavelet in structure and image compression applications. Balanced multiwavelet can avoid pre-filtering and reduce complexity of calculation. While balancing always loses symmetry of scaling functions. Based on orthogonality, symmetry and balancing conditions a balanced multiwavelet which combines orthogonality, symmetry and balance simultaneously was constructed. In application of image compression the experiment result indicated that it outperforms GHM in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR).
