Large-Pore Cage like Silica with Necks of Molecular Dimensions

摘要
The neck size of five kinds of FDU-12 silicas prepared without and with the hydrothermal treatment at low temperatures was assessed by examining the molecular sieving effect for several different molecules. The results clearly indicate that the ordered silicas with cagelike pores thus obtained possess necks of molecular dimensions, and the size of the necks available for molecular sieving is increased with an increase in the hydrothermal treatment temperature. The molecular sieving effect of the cagelike silica is discussed based on bond-controlled percolation.
