Temporal contrast enhanced to 10-10 for Petawatt class femtosecond lasers

摘要
We present a new nonlinear solid-state cleaner for the contrast enhancement of femtosecond pulses. The contrast reaches 10(-10) for mJ input pulse, making it a reliable way to solve the contrast issue for Petawatt class lasers in a double chirped-pulse amplification scheme. This filter is based on cross-polarized wave generation in nonlinear crystals. It takes advantage of nonlinear properties associated with third-order tensor elements in BaF2 cubic crystal to improve the temporal contrast of femtosecond laser pulses. Furthermore, it does not affect the spectral shape or the phase of the cleaned pulse. It also acts as an efficient spatial filter.
