The paper is based on a study initiated by PIARC/OECD/EU concerning transport of dangerous goods through road tunnels. The study for which the authors were consultants included definition of strategies, risk analyses and decision support models. The paper has particular focus on the decision support model, which combines risk analysis results, tunnel owner preferences and other tunnel data in order to rank the possible restriction strategies for the tunnel and recommend the most optimal strategy taking into account all the objectives of the tunnel owner.
