摘要
Prognostication after severe brain injury has become difficult because of progress in critical care, which is responsible for patient survival, but at the cost of neurological sequelae. At presentation, initial support should be maximised. Performing prognostication is necessary to answer relatives' questions. Moreover, in case of insufficient recovery, withdrawal of therapy could be suggested but these decisions should be carefully documented. Physicians could rely on clinical signs, CT scans and MRI, electrophysiology and biology. This review will include traumatic brain injury, haemorrhagic stroke and subarachnoid haemorrhage, with a special focus on children.
