2-[2-(Methylamino)benzoyl]-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-pyrido[3,4-b]indol-1-one

The title compound, C(19)H(17)N(3)O(2), was obtained from fruits of Evodia Rutaecarpa. In the solid state, the dihedral angle between the 2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-pyrido[3,4-b] indol-1-one (tetrahydro-beta-carbolinone) unit and the benzoyl ring is 61.46 (3)degrees. In the crystal, dimers are formed through intermolecular N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen-bonding interactions. In addition, intramolecular N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds are also observed. C-H center dot center dot center dot pi contacts connect the dimers, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional supramolecular network.
