摘要
This article discuss community participation in the local tourism development at an ex-gold mine area. The locals that were enjoying mining-based economy through informal jobs were losing their job. However, they find a new opportunity through a tourism-based economy that is initiated by the local ellites and the gold-mine company. The local community is thriving to participate in the development of the village tourism potentials. However, community participation is unequal among the locals. The local elites use their previous connections with mining sponsors to build a new tourism businesses. The village officials also have the advantage to participate in developing and operating new tourism business by using the district official resources.Local participation in tourism development is low due to the lack of access to information, network, and resources.
