Experiments on Wave Attenuation Based on a Submerged Plate with Vegetation in Regular Waves

摘要
Submerged plate and vegetation are two methods for wave attenuation offering much merits over traditional concrete structures. The wave attenuation efficiency of submerged plate with vegetation was investigated in this study. Following experiments were conducted in this paper: vegetation density at 3333 stems/m(2), 1667 stems /m(2), and 417 stems/m(2); submergence at 2cm, 6cm, 10cm, 14cm; wave period at 1.5s, 1.8s, 2.5s, 2.8s; wave height at 10cm, 13cm, 15cm, 18cm. The experimental results show that wave attenuation varies periodically with the wave height and reduces with the increase of wave period. Under a certain wave condition, the best wave attenuation appears when the vegetation density is large enough and the vegetation is half submerged in the water. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the method, and they may also lead to further numerical and experimental investigations on this method.
