Promotion and development of renewable energies in Sudan

In Sudan, electricity reaches only similar to 30% of the population, mainly in urban areas. Hence, a major problem for rural people is the inadequate supply of power for lighting, heating, cooking, cooling, water pumping, radio or TV communications and security services. Petroleum product supplies, including diesel, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas are irregular and often subject to sudden price increases. Sudan possessed a relatively high abundance of sunshine, solar radiation and moderate wind speeds. This short communication gives an overview of some perspectives of renewable energy technologies in Sudan.
