Results of Comparative Durability Investigations of Cutting-Ceramic Indexable Inserts in the Turning of Hardened Steel Blanks

摘要
The results of a durability investigation of a cutting ceramic-a replaceable cutting insert [RCI], developed at NSTU, and VOK-60 cutting ceramic in machining of hardened steel blanks made from 40Kh (45HRC) steel - are reported. Testing showed that in cutting regimes developed at KnASU the RCI made of a cutting ceramic developed at NSTU is 1.7-fold more durable than inserts based on the VOK-60 material. In addition the roughness of the machined surface of the blank was equal to Ra = 0.35 +/- 0.05 mu m when using RCI from the developed ceramics and Ra = 0.55 +/- 0.05 mu m in the case of VOK-60 plates. The destruction of cutting-ceramic inserts was found to occur in a staged manner with a hierarchy of structural scales.
