ThyssenKrupp's second latest hot dip galvanizing line n degrees 8 CGL went into operation in October 2001. This line is equipped with a Chemcoater to apply passivating layers such as chromate or phosphate on the galvanized strip. Special attention must be given to the fact that the Chemcoater process in a CGL can operate at variable speeds. The report shows different investigations into achieving a constant thickness of the coated layer over width and length. After this optimization the coater process offers advantages over the spraying application: It is an outstanding treatment which prevents surface humidity, builds a substantial anticorrosion layer and improves appearance.
