摘要
Evaluation of antimicrobial activity of propolis extracts for therapeutic purposes. Among the products that can be obtained from beehive there is wax, honey, royal, jelly and propolis. The last is a mixture of complex chemical composition that contains balsams, ethereal oils, pollen, vitamins, and some minerals and proteins, substances which give a variety of biological properties of great interest for therapeutic purposes. For this reason in the current investigation we studied the antimicrobial effectiveness of two alcoholic extracts, one from Ciego de Avila and other from northen Keys of Caibarien, using the agar dilution method. The study was made against clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa from The Microbiology Provincial Laboratory of Santa Clara. The extracts antimicrobial effectiveness depends on the origin of propolis and the evaluated bacterial species, being the extract from the northen Keys of Caibarien more effective. The most sensible bacterial species was Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis.
