摘要
Endometrial carcinoma is a common malignancy with numerous histopathologic variants. The majority of cases are classified as type I tumors, show endometrioid morphology, are low grade and low stage and have excellent 5-year survival. Type II tumors are much less common, are predominantly serous carcinomas and are uniformly highly aggressive. This clinical dichotomy is reflected in and supported by reproducible molecular genetic alterations specific to each type. Less is known about the underlying genetic mutations for the rarer type II tumors and it is yet to be determined if clear cell carcinoma of the endometrium will be classifiable as type I, type II or will remain an outlier in this classification.
