摘要：

While designing a exhaust muffler, it is the first thing to determine its volume. The three kinds formulas of muffler's volume calculation are analysed, and the main choice factors of these formulas are discussed. The main shape sizes of a muffler, the diameter D and length L, which influence the insertion loss of muffler, are carried on the investigation of the theory and experiment. The choice of muffler's diameter and length should be comprehensively considered by recommendation size with the whole car fixing position.
