摘要：

Umbilical cord (UC) is an easily detectible structure that can be examined during the first trimester ultrasound. Morphologic alterations of the cord have been found at delivery in many pathological conditions. Attempts at prenatal diagnosis of trisomic babies in the absence of karyotype are still a scientific challenge. This abstract reports our preliminary results at the study of the UC during the routine 11-14 weeks examination in a population of pregnant women in Northern-Western Greece. The potential value of this examination in the screening for chromosomal abnormalities is under consideration.
