A new method for detecting the radioactive materials using X or γ-ray cargo inspection systems

摘要
The proliferation of nuclear technology applications has made the illicit trafficking of radioactive sources a serious threat. Currently, several methods have been developed to control the transport of radioactive materials, including the use of monitoring gates, portable detectors, dosimeters, etc. In this work, a new method is proposed to be implemented on the X-or gamma-ray vehicle inspection systems to enable them to detect the hidden radioactive materials inside the trucks or cars. The main goal of the work is to introduce the method on a lab scale from the qualitative point of view. In this method, post-processing is done on the images acquired from a linear array detector to find the hidden radioactive sources inside the scanned objects without the need for additional inspections by other monitoring tools.
