摘要
Experimental investigation of sodium expansion in carbon/TiB2 cathodes during aluminum electrolysis was carried out in a modified Rapoport apparatus. The sodium expansion increased with increasing current density and cryolite ratio, but decreased with increased TiB2 content. A model of the relationship between the sodium expansion and time during the Rapoport test has been used for the TiB2-carbon cathode materials. Diffusion coefficient and other parameters required in the model can be obtained. TiB2 addition can contribute to a reduction in uptake of Na into the carbon-based composite cathodes, thus leading to a decrease in sodium expansion during aluminum electrolysis.
