The comparison of numerical and experimental results for the simple water hammer problem

摘要
The numerical analysis of water hammer problem in a simple pipe was performed using the method of characteristics. The mathematical model of the one-dimensional unsteady flow contains the friction factor, which is modelled in the same way as in steady slate flows. The obtained numerical results compared with experimental data point out that such friction factor model is suitable for high Reynolds number flows, but a better model is needed for low Reynolds numbers.
