The increasing importance of environmental considerations and growing legislative pressures have in the past resulted in the development of various concepts for formulating low-emission coatings for automotive applications. Of the various approaches taken, water-borne two-component polyurethane (2K-PUR) technology has proven to yield the highest quality at low baking temperatures (T < 80°C) and the lowest emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC). Water-borne 2K-PUR coatings require the development of tailor-made raw materials that satisfy the environmental requirements of the coatings industry and yield coating systems of consistent high quality.
