摘要：
Beginning with the state as of the end of 19th century an overview is provided, mainly covering scientifically/technically based requirements by air pollution control legislation in Germany (up to 1989 predominantly for the Federal Republic). There appears a trend from health protection measures at single sources to measures for the protection of the environment as a whole, from local aspects to long range and to international measures, from technical measures only to more integrated approaches, to sustainable development and to climate protection.
