Flux pinning and grain coupling in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ ceramics:: Magneto-optical investigations

Efforts are being made to improve the flux pinning and grain coupling in bulk Bi-2212 ceramics, prepared by a partial melting process. For this purpose, the penetration of vortices is visualized by means of the magneto-optical Faraday effect technique at various temperatures ranging from 18 K up to 77 K. Our Bi-2212 ceramic samples are found to show a strong coupling between the grains, which is manifested by the observation of a flux front propagating into the sample on increasing field. To investigate the pinning properties, we studied remanent states obtained after applying external magnetic fields up to 160 mT.
