Correlations of lipid parameters and cardiac remodeling in patients with arterial hypertension

Arterial hypertension (AHT) constitutes a public health problem, worldwide and nationally, generating systemic repercussions such as damage to the heart as a white organ; being also associated with other comorbidities such as dyslipidemia. In order to correlate lipid parameters with cardiac remodeling in patients with arterial hypertension, a descriptive observational study was performed who's sample consisted of 60 hypertensive patients with an average age of 50.5 +/- 1.7 years, being 56.7% of the patients' female patients. The results were: 60% of the patients presented cardiac remodeling (CR) with a predominance of the concentric remodeling pattern. Normal average levels were found for triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL, with lower HDL values in those with CR, a non-significant difference. There was a positive correlation between triglyceride levels and the thickness of the heart walls, left ventricular mass (LV mass) and relative wall thickness (RWT). In addition, a negative correlation was found between HDL levels and heart wall thickness, LV mass and RWT. Based on the above, hypertensive patients presented changes in the geometric pattern of the left ventricle correlating to two lipid parameters evaluated with echocardiographic variables, which would indicate that rigorous control of blood pressure as a measure of prevention of cardiac remodeling is important to monitor, In addition to controlling blood lipid levels, being a transcendental goal in the comprehensive approach to HT
