摘要
Certain switching conditions on electric power systems can result in very high transient recovery voltages across circuit breakers. This is particularly the case for circuit breakers applied on gapless MOV-scheme series compensated lines and to switched shunt reactors. High-speed reclosing on shunt compensated lines results in very high switching overvoltages unless remedial measures are taken. The paper describes how metal oxide surge arresters can be applied to these particular cases to limit the circuit breaker and system overvoltage stresses. In some instances, further overvoltage limitation can be achieved by the addition of point-on-wave switching control and this is also described, where applicable. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
