Tests of chiral perturbation theory in threshold pion photoproduction at SAL

The threshold pion photoproduction program at the Saskatchewan Accelerator Laboratoty is reviewed. Recently completed or currently in progress measurements are discussed for the reactions gamma p --> pi(0)p, gamma p --> pi(+)n, and gamma d --> pi(0)d, the latter being aimed at extracting information on the elementary process gamma n --> pi(0)n. Final or preliminary results are presented and compared to recent calculations based on chiral perturbation theory.
