摘要：
The Lecture deals with the development of coal science in the now expiring century under the driving forces of politics, economics, and technology and in interaction with the progress achieved by other scientific and engineering disciplines. The growth and status of knowledge is demonstrated choosing examples under the guideline "Structure and Basic Reactions". The full text will be published in Fuel.
