摘要
The influence of magnetic field on the equilibrium phase diagram of an Fe-C binary system was thermodynamically examined. A strong magnetic field increased the austenite/ferrite equilibrium temperature due to the higher magnetic susceptibility of ferrite. The existence of external magnetic field increased the eutectoid carbon content, critical temperatures, and carbon solubility in the ferrite phase of steel. Continuous-cooling experiments revealed that a strong magnetic field substantially increased the fraction of prior-austenite ferrite of medium carbon steel while it suppressed the precipitation of prior-austenite cementite in hyper-eutectoid steel.
