摘要
Waste Cooking Oil (WCO) is considered a good feedstock for producing biodiesel which can be used as an alternative fuel in CI engines. The major problem of using biodiesel in a CI engine is the increased harmful NOX concentration in the exhaust. Peroxides (DTBP) and alcohol (ethanol) based additives are used with WCO biodiesel to prepare the blended fuels which fuelled a laboratory-scale diesel engine and the performance and emission parameters of the same are reported in the present work. The engine used is a 611cc, single-cylinder, 4 S, water-cooled, naturally aspirated, diesel engine with a range of brake powers from 0 to 4 kW. The measured parameters are specific fuel consumption, thermal efficiency, the concentrations of NOX, CO, HC and smoke at the exhaust. The results showed a maximum reduction in NOX, CO, HC and smoke concentrations are 13, 30, 43, and 45% respectively as compared to engine producing the same brake power using diesel as fuel. Simultaneously, a 10% increment in efficiency makes these blends a more proficient alternative of diesel.
