摘要
Cherry stones were used as a low cost precursor for activated carbon preparation by potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide activation with microwave heating. The significance of activation temperature and activation time on the activated carbon was investigated. The optimum conditions were at 300 degrees C and 3min. The activated carbon materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption isotherms. The results showed that activation time and activation temperature had the greatest impact on the surface area and micropore volume of product prepared with potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide, respectively. The highest surface area of the activated carbon was 1380m(2)/g by chemical treatment with potassium hydroxide and microwave radiation at 300W.
