The new opportunities and areas for application of refractories at the Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works Joint Stock Co, are discussed. At NTISW, protection tubes made of alumina-carbon material that does not require preheating have successfully undergone trials. Continuous-casting machines (CCM) at the NTISW use imported monoblock stoppers, nonswirl nozzles, and submersible nozzles, which have been available from Vesuvius, Duferco, and Mayerton. The general strategy pursued at the NTISW is to increase the durability of refractory materials and to minimize associated expenditures therewith.
